HEY THERE

About Us

Kari and Michael Carpenter have been practicing hot yoga since 2013 at which point the 26&2 sequence truly changed their lives. When the opportunity to open Yoga Sol arrived, it was an easy decision to bring the hot room back to life. It brings them tremendous joy to be able to provide a beautiful space for people to gather and improve their lives and bring the community together.

Our Community

Yoga Sol opened on January 1, 2023 with a full class of practitioners excited to rekindle the Hot 26&2 practice in Harrisonburg. Since then, our offerings have expanded to include Vinyasa, Pilates and Yin on the schedule as well. We appeal to a diverse mix of people who bring their unique personalities and experiences to our space. Our community thrives on respect and kindness without judgement or comparison. People connect and laugh here. People heal and grow here. Our lives change for the better here, together.

Kari Carpenter

Owner and Instructor

Kari began practicing hot yoga in 2013 and knew immediately after her first class that there was something special about the sequence and the environment. It didn't take long for her to notice the many benefits of practicing yoga and to want to know more about yoga on and off the mat. Kari completed her 200 hour teaching training at The Center Yoga under Suzanne McCahill Perrine and completed training for the original Hot 26&2 with Lizzie Clark at Hot Yoga Charlottesville. She also completed The Power of Awareness course with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield as well as receiving certification for teaching Yin Yoga through YogaRenew. In 2026, Kari completed her certification for teaching Vinyasa under Julia Gilchrist. With so much gratitude for having yoga in her life and being able to share it with others, she has found joy and purpose in guiding others through this life changing practice. Kari has a Master of Arts in Teaching, 15 years of experience in education and almost 40 years of performing as a musician. Other things that bring her joy are her husband and daughter, hiking, biking, back country skiing, reading, loving on her dogs and taking care of her extensive collection of houseplants.

Keith Rutt

Instructor

Keith walked into his first hot yoga class in February 2010 in Anchorage, Alaska. He likes to say he was cold and was only looking for a way to get warm; 105 degrees sounded like a great relief from the sub-zero temperatures. His wife, Erin, introduced him to the practice, as he was attempting to quit a heavy smoking habit, one more time. He didn’t know anything about yoga, and he could not come close to touching his toes. His teacher said he just needed to stay in the room for 90 minutes and breathe. Everything else was optional. He did that and went back for more. He began his practice focused on the physical benefits and quickly began to see that this yoga offered so much more than that. It is designed to heal the body, mind, and spirit. His favorite yoga quote is that “this practice is not about comparing my body to someone else’s posture or even primarily about reaching a final perfect posture. Flexibility, strength, focus and depth are relative to each moment I step back onto the mat. It is that moment I pursue through my practice; that moment being now.” He completed his teacher training in June 2017 in Buffalo, NY with Evolation Yoga, and returned to teach at Hot Yoga Harrisonburg for 15 months. He is happy to come back to this space, to rejoin this community, and to be a part of Yoga Sol. Come join him for a class at the studio!

Michael Carpenter

Manager and Instructor

Michael began practicing in the hot room for rehab after a lower back surgery in 2013. Michael spent over 20 years working with the JMU Athletic Department before pursuing the opportunity to share the 26&2 practice with others. He completed teacher training with Lizzie Clark at Hot Yoga Charlottesville. When not in the studio, you will find him outside on a bicycle, floating a river or following his three dogs through the mountains.

In 2025, she completed her 200 hour yoga certification at The Center School of Yoga. As many people know, Amelia was also diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer during this time. Emily completed 26&2 teacher training with Lizzie Clark at Hot Yoga Charlottesville. Outside of yoga, Emily loves spending time with her husband and two daughters, riding bikes, or getting to the woods for a hike. Vivian Chang

Instructor

Vivian began teaching yoga in 2010 and completed her yoga teacher training with renowned teacher Patrick Creelman in Taiwan in 2011. Before moving to the United States in 2018, she taught yoga full-time. She now teaches part-time in Harrisonburg, Virginia, while continuing to deepen her own practice and studies. Her classes blend strength, breath, and mindful movement, creating a welcoming space where students are encouraged to challenge themselves with curiosity and compassion. Vivian believes yoga is not about achieving the perfect pose but about cultivating resilience, self-awareness, and a meaningful connection with both body and mind. Outside the studio, Vivian enjoys studying yoga philosophy through online classes with friends from around the world. She also loves cooking, spending quiet time with her cat, and finding joy in the simple moments of everyday life. She hopes every student leaves her class feeling stronger, more grounded, and inspired to carry the practice beyond the mat.
